Fishing safaris

Are you interested in Fishing safaris? Before the introduction of Nile perch and Nile tilapia in the 1950s and 1960s, Lake Victoria had a multi-species fishery of over 500 endemic fish species, the dominant species being the tilapiine and haplochromines. Haplochromines were dominant in catches, but are a small bony fish, not always popular for consumption. Before 1954, Lake Victoria's ecology was characterised by enormous biodiversity. It was inhabited by over 500 species of fish, 90% of which were cichlids belonging to the genus Haplochromis. They are thought to have evolved in Lake Victoria within the last 12,000 years. They are known for their extraordinary ability to evolve rapidly to suit extremely localised and diverse environments, a characteristic termed 'evolutionary plasticity'.This ability has made the cichlid species of Lake Victoria an extremely successful fish. Woodland Trek & Safari Ltd

emosho Route The Woodland Trek Safaris Ltd team will meet you at Kilimanjaro airport and transfer you to your pre-climb hotel. Later you will attend a pre-climb briefing with your Lead Guide to prepare you for the challenge ahead. A vehicle is used to bring climbers to the gate, where the trail begins in the rainforest. Lemosho trekkers have a longer distance to cover in the rainforest ecosystem than other routes, and as a result climbers do not exit the rainforest until the  end of day two. This schedule means that the Lemosho Route is a longer route, usually taking seven to eight days to complete. Though considered a difficult route, the added days on the lower slopes of the mountain make this the best route for altitude acclimatization. The descent is down Mweka, in the south-east. Because the starting point is far from Moshi, it is more expensive to climb this route due to the added transportation cost of getting climbers to the gate. Scenically, Lemosho is co...

KITULO NATIONAL PARK

This national park protects the flower-clad Kitulo Plateau, together with sections of the former Livingstone Forest Reserve, which runs south from the plateau paralleling the  Lake Nyasa  shoreline. The area, much of which lies between 2600m and 3000m in the highlands northeast of  Tukuyu , is beautiful, and a paradise for hikers, although tourism infrastructure is almost non-existent. Rising up from the plateau is Mt Mtorwi (2961m), which is 1m higher than Mt Rungwe and southern Tanzania’s highest peak.
