Sellous Game reserve - www.woodlandtrek.co.tz

Selous Game Reserve is the largest protected area uninhabited by man in the whole of Africa. The vegetation of the park varies from plains, rolling grasslands to rocky outcrops which are intersected by the Rufiji River.

The Rufiji River is made up of a network of tributaries and lakes forming the life blood of this magnificent park.  Along the banks of the river you will find an abundance of game including large herds of elephants especially in the dry season which runs from June to November.  With the park being such a vast area it is the perfect home to around one third of the Wild Dogs in Africa.

The park is well known for its walking safaris, boating safaris and of course safaris vehicle

You will hike past wildlife, the landscape is spectacular, and sunrise on the summit has Kilimanjaro as the backdrop. While it can be done in only 4 days, it is not an easy peak to summit. To reach the top (almost 15,000 feet), there is some scrambling on rocks in the dark and at high altitude. You should be prepared for at l east 10 hours of hiking on summit day. For an easier hike, you can climb just to Rhino Point for sunrise overlooking Kilimanjaro, and then descend. Mt. Meru is in Arusha National Park. In Arusha National Park all hikers must be accompanied by an armed ranger. This ranger is employed directly by the national park. You will also have your own mountain guide, who is managing the crew and watching out for your safety. The park ranger has the authority to make decisions such as trail choices, pace, etc. Arus...

In 1982 the Reserve’s unique ecosystem was recognized internationally and the area designated a World Heritage Site by the United Nations. The Rufiji River: an outstanding water system The wide, meandering Rufiji River is one of the largest water systems in East Africa. With its associated wetland, lakes and swamps it is one of the most outstanding exological systems in the whole eastern Africa. Boat trips and longer safaris down the spectacular River offer visitors a chance to see hippos, bird life and even crocodiles up close. See a pack of African Wild Dog!  During a game drive or walk one might be lucky enough to see a pack of African Wild Dog disappearing throughout Africa but thriving in the Selous. These complex and fascinating mammals show little fear of v...
